About Night Guards
At Roman Dental we are focused on protecting your teeth from damage. Tooth clenching, day and night time teeth grinding, known as dental bruxism, is very common. Often people are unaware that they have this habit. Significant harm can occur, wearing down the biting surface of back teeth, causing chipping on the edge of the front teeth, notch or grove formation on tooth roots, gums recession, abnormal jaw bone growth and thermal sensitivity. Night time bruxism can also cause headaches, tooth pain, inflammation, neck and jaw joint ( dental TMJ) pain. Roman Dental can provide custom night guards that can protect your teeth and temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) while you sleep. Custom night guards are made from high-quality materials utilizing state-of-the-art technology to fit you comfortably and prevent damage from teeth grinding and jaw clenching, helping you to achieve a better night’s sleep. While sleeping you may be quietly wearing down-your teeth by clenching and grinding (Bruxism).
Clenching and grinding are serious conditions that can rapidly wear and damage a tooth, its root, and cause gum recession. During a dental exam at Roman Dental we ask about symptoms and look for signs that you may be grinding your teeth and/or clenching your jaw at night. You may benefit from a night guard if you often wake up with a headache or tenderness of the muscles surrounding the ear and jaw. Other signs that may suggest the need for a night guard include slight tooth mobility, worn-down enamel on the tops of your back teeth, grooves on root surfaces (abfractions), dental sensitivity to cold or hot liquids and sensitivity to wind or cold air. Teeth grinding and clenching at night are typically caused by stress, misalignment of teeth, breathing disorders, allergies, or temporo-mandibular joint disorder (TMD).
Call us for a dental check-up – it may lead to a better night’s sleep and healthier teeth.
