Do you have questions about how to keep your smile healthy? Do you have a toothache and need to receive emergency dental care? Our team is here to get you the answers you need so you can keep your smile healthy and happy. Below, we’ve answered some of the frequently asked dental questions we receive from our dentistry patients for your convenience.

How often should you change out your toothbrush?

It’s recommended that you change out your toothbrush every three months, whenever you notice the bristles beginning to fray, or after you’ve gotten over being sick. This will prevent harmful bacteria from accumulating on your brush and keep you from damaging your gums.

What dental problem causes toothaches?

Toothaches can be caused by something as simple as a piece of food lodged between your tooth or something as severe as a toothache. That’s why we recommend gently maneuvering a piece of floss around your affected tooth before contacting us for a same-day appointment. If you have a toothache that won’t seem to go away, contact our office immediately.

What should I do if I have a dental emergency?

If you have a dental emergency, the first step you should take is to contact our office. Our team will provide you with over-the-phone first-aid guidance and schedule an appointment for you the same day you call.

I’m scared of visiting the dentist, but I need to. Can you help?

Yes! At Roman Dental, we want our patients to feel comfortable whenever they visit us, which is why we offer several different types of sedation, including oral conscious sedation, IV conscious sedation, and nitrous oxide.

Do you treat children?

Yes, we offer kid-friendly dental treatments.

Are dental implants covered by dental insurance?

It’s rarely if ever the case that dental insurance companies will cover the cost of dental implants because they still consider them to be “cosmetic” treatments. However, more insurance companies are beginning to offer benefits towards this procedure because of how many advantages it offers and how necessary tooth replacement is. The best way to find out whether your insurance policy will cover your treatment is to call them directly.

What’s the best type of toothbrush to get?

We recommend soft-bristled manual or electric toothbrushes (whichever is your preference). This is because medium and hard bristles can actually damage your gums and cause them to recede over time, especially if you brush hard with them. Plus, soft-bristled toothbrushes can just as effectively remove plaque from your teeth with the proper brushing technique.
